A West Midlands region county that is landlocked is Warwickshire (/ˈwɒrɪkʃər, -ʃɪər/; postal abbreviation Warks.). North Warwickshire, Nuneaton and Bedworth, Rugby, Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon include districts which the county is divided into. In the 19th century, Atherstone, Bedworth, Nuneaton, and Rugby include towns of northern and eastern Warwickshire were industrialised. Metropolitan authorities in themselves, since, incorporated into the county of West Midlands, were both Birmingham and Coventry in 1974, there are no cities in Warwickshire.

Thus places in Warwickshire's central-western part end with the "-in-Arden" phrase in the names, such as Tanworth-in-Arden, Hampton-in-Arden, and Henley-in-Arden. Solihull, Coventry, Erdington, Sutton Coldfield, and Birmingham parts including Edgbaston and Aston include areas part of Warwickshire. Leamington Spa is the headquarters of the Warwick, Nuneaton is headquarters of Nuneaton and Bedworth District and Atherstone is the headquarters of North Warwickshire district.

Though the University of Warwick forms part of the border with Warwickshire on the southern edge of Coventry, there are no universities per se in Warwickshire. Lakeside Village and Warwick Business School, which include areas of the University of Warwick are within the boundaries of Warwickshire. The university, near Wellesbourne, has a campus which houses the Horticultural Centre for Research of Warwick and a Centre for Innovation. Connecting north-western England and the West Midlands to the M1 motorway (then on to London), the M6 motorway runs through Warwickshire's north, and on its way to Birmingham serves Bedworth, Nuneaton, and Rugby.

Running through Warwickshire is West Coast Main Line (WCML). The major town in Warwickshire until 2018 without a station was Kenilworth. In the Warwickshire village of Baginton is Coventry Airport. From a junction with the Coventry Canal at Bedworth, the Ashby-de-la-Zouch Canal passes through Warwickshire. Royal Leamington Spa, Warwick, Stratford-upon-Avon, Kenilworth, Alcester, Wellesbourne, and Southam harbour light to medium tourism, services, and industries as employment sectors include the prosperous towns of central and western Warwickshire.

Including that area forming part of Coventry, Solihull and Birmingham, much of western Warwickshire was covered by the ancient Forest of Arden (most of which was cut down to provide fuel for industrialisation). However the name of the West Midlands county has not been abolished altogether, and the town and cities remain outside Warwickshire, in 1986 the West Midlands CC was abolished and Birmingham, Coventry, and Solihull became effective lone areas. Some organisations observe the historic county boundaries, such as Warwickshire County CC, which is based in Edgbaston, in Birmingham.

Treated as a single area, Coventry and Warwickshire share a single Chamber of Commerce and BBC Local Radio Station. With the Edgehill Battle in the county and other skirmishes taking place, Warwickshire played a part in the English CW. One of the few authorities to still maintain, in England, the system for grammar school in two districts: Rugby and Stratford-on-Avon is Warwickshire.
